Colombo Lotus Pond Theater Tour

This tour will take you to the newly built Lotus Pond. (Available any day )

We will pick you up in the afternoon and drive you to Pond Theater in old Colombo's Municipal Council grounds at Ananda Coomaraswamy Mawatha. If there is a show yu will have the opportunity to see the show other wise our guide will take you around and show you some of the important points of architecture of the modern theater which is built on a model similar to the Lotus Pond (Nelum Pokuna) of Polonnaruwa in Sri Lanka.

Lotus Pond theater was constructed with the expertise from China at a cost of Rs. 3.08 billion. China has financed a grant to cover 60 percent of the expenditure of the project, and agreed to bear the remaining 40 percent of the cost.

The five-storied building comprises a main theater with a seating capacity of 1,288 seats and an open air theater on the top floor. The theater houses a three tier movable stage. It also comprises two exhibition halls, thirteen rehearsal halls, parking facilities for 500 vehicles, library, and training facilities.

The theatre, equipped with ultra-modern equipment will have facilities to conduct educational and research activities.
