Holiday Highlights
Kandy Tours by TukTuk Three Wheeler or Rickshaw - Included in the price
Kandy is a place, unlike most others. Its uniqueness is defined by its
landscape. Surrounding it are hills, mountains and rivers, all of which provided
natural ramparts and protection from attempted conquering. It is at the lake you
will meet your host, who will first take you on a short walk around the lake and
up to a colonial remnant of history, Garrison cemetery. Here you will see names
of influential people in Kandy’s history, and learn of how the British played a
vital if controversial role in its formation. On your way to the tuktuk, you
will pass through the grounds of the temple of the tooth, a place sure to visit
during your stay in the city. From here you will travel by tuktuk up high and
discover the hills and views that overlook the city. Learn of historic tales
whilst sat underneath a giant Buddha, and marvel at the vista which literally
takes the breath away. To end your trip, you will visit Helga’s Folly, an
unusual hotel perched above the city. Here you will refresh yourself and learn
about Helga herself, and all of the A-list Hollywood guests she has hosted over
the years.
Colombo Tours by TukTuk – Included in the price
Meet your host at independence square, an historic backdrop to begin the
experience. From here you will travel by TukTuk through winding streets that
reflect both the bustling city that exists today and its colonial heritage.
Reflect in the gloriously colourfulGangaramaya temple and marvel at the granite
structure of Sri PonnambalaVanneswarar Temple. It is here you will learn about
the influence of Buddhism and Hinduism continue to have on one another long
after their inception in Sri Lanka. After you travel through some of modern day
Colombo you will reach Pettah. Your knowledgable guide will walk you through the
bustling streets of this merchant city developed over time since 1656. By far
the most stunning landmark in this area is Jami Ul-Alfar, a red and white brick
mosque built in 1909. Marvel at its detailing before you hit a side road out of
the hustle of Pettah to refresh yourself in a colonial hotel. It is from here
you will travel a short distance to climb to a viewpoint unparalleled in the
city. A 360 degree view awaits you. From port and sea to city views, take your
time to drink in an often overlooked and under appreciated Colombo.

Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage
The Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage is situated northwest of the town of Kegalle,
halfway between the present capital Colombo and the ancient royal residence
Kandy. It was established in 1975 by the Sri Lanka Wildlife Department in a 25
acre coconut property adjoining the MahaOya River. The orphanage was originally
founded in order to afford care and protection to the many orphaned Elephants
found in the jungles of Sri Lanka. In 1978 the orphanage was taken over by the
National Zoological Gardens from the Department of Wildlife. A captive breeding
program was launched in 1982. Since the inception of the program over 20
elephants have been bred here. The aim of the orphanage is to simulate a natural
habitat to these elephants. However, there are some exceptions: the elephants
are taken to the river twice a day for a bath.

Peradeniya, 6.5km south from the town, on the Colombo road. Its origins go back
